Lucy, Countess Stanhope

Lucy, Countess Stanhope (often referred to as Lucy Pitt) (1692–1723) was a British aristocrat. She was the wife of James Stanhope, 1st Earl Stanhope a soldier and leading Whig statesman who served as effective First Minister from 1717 until his death in 1721. They married in February 1713[1] and their son was Philip Stanhope, 2nd Earl Stanhope. She was the daughter of Governor Thomas "Diamond" Pitt and the aunt of William Pitt who became noted for leading Britain during the Seven Years War.
